Resolution

(1) The Spotfire desktop client's help topic whose title is "Adjacent Values and Outliers" explains how the Box Plot visualization identifies outliers.

The help topic whose title is "Aggregations Overview" provides links to the help topics that describe individual statistical measures used in the Box Plot visualization's reference points and Statistics Table, including the measures that are used in identifying outliers.

(2) The Box Plot visualization has options to display Reference Points for the following percentiles:

90th percentile
75th percentile (which has the name "Q3 (Third Quartile)")
50th percentile (which has the name "Median")
25th percentile (which has the name "Q1 (First Quartile)")
10th percentile

The checkboxes for displaying these reference points are in the "Reference Points" panel of the "Box Plot Properties" dialog that is opened when you right-click on the Box Plot, then select "Properties" from its context-sensitive menu.

The Box Plot visualization does not have Reference Point options to display other percentiles (such as the 95th percentile or the 5th percentile), however.
