Description
When an environment mixes both the HA feature and the management station feature it may be confusing as to how to combine the use of the two features or at least know how best to integrate the features. This article describes what IP address should be put into the Management Station when the appliances are in an HA configuration.
Although the management station feature can retrieve message/CPU statistics and alerts from the remote appliances, it can also be used for aggregating search and report results from the remote appliances. If you just want to use the management station feature for monitoring the remote appliances then using the private IP of each node to add them as independent appliances to the management station configuration is recommended.
However, to fully take advantage of the capabilities offered by the management station feature you may want to use the distributed searching feature. If your plan is to use that then the recommendation is to only add the HA cluster virtual IP to the management station rather than using the private IP of each node. It's best to do this because otherwise the management station will send a search request to both nodes thus resulting in duplicate events.
Starting in LogLogic LMI 6.3.0 the advanced search can be executed as a distributed search via the management station. With that new functionality there is added flexibility for choosing which remote appliances to include in search criteria than when using classic index and regex searches. Because of that, you could still add the individual HA nodes to the management station and then, if you are using the distributed advanced search, exclude any appliance nodes to eliminate duplicate events.
In all scenarios described above note that each unique remote appliance web GUI SSL certificate must be imported into the management station to be a trusted certificate. The same must occur with the management station's web GUI certificate in the reverse direction. The procedure for this can be found in the LogLogic LMI Administration Guide. For HA clusters that utilize the same shared certificate the certificate only has to be imported once to be utilized by the management station for both HA nodes.
