Description

Issue: Customers might experience the error below while installing the TIBCO Scribe Online On-premise agent.
Cause: This is a permission issue where the user running the TIBCO Scribe Online agent service does not have read/write access and the error occurs while trying to access the SQL LocalDB.
Error: While installing the TIBCO Scribe Online on-premise agent, you could get a popup with the error message 'Could not find file: status.txt'.

Reviewing the Windows event viewer logs, TIBCO Scribe Online agent/status logs will show the error below: 
"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 50 - Local Database Runtime error occurred. Error occurred during LocalDB instance startup: SQL Server process failed to start.' while installing the TIBCO Scribe Online On-premise agent."

This article walks you through the process of resolving the error 'A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 50 - Local Database Runtime error occurred. Error occurred during LocalDB instance startup: SQL Server process failed to start.' while installing the TIBCO Scribe Online On-premise agent.

Resolution

To resolve the error, follow the steps below:
  1. Open Windows services and configure the Scribe Online Agent service to log on using a domain user account.
  2. Read/write access on the SCRIBE SOFTWARE folder would need to be granted to the user running the TIBCO Scribe Online agent service.
  3. Navigate to the folder path  'C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)' > Right-click on the 'SCRIBE SOFTWARE' folder > Properties > Security > Edit > Add the User running the TIBCO Scribe On-premise agent > Grant Full Control (this includes read/write access).
  4. Restart the Scribe Online Agent service. 
  5. In the TIBCO Cloud Integration - Connect (Scribe) UI, navigate to Environment and Tools > Agent, to see the TIBCO Scribe Online on-premise agent available/running.
