Description

When a SQL Server Analysis Services connector is used within an analysis and this file is accessed through the Web Player, it can be observed that it is always using the Windows Service Account(that the node manager is running through) credentials. Even though an incorrect credential is used, it might still access the file content. This is because it still uses the Windows credentials irrespective of what credentials were entered.

Issue/Introduction

SSAS connector not using any credentials except the Windows Service Account credentials

Environment

All supported environments

Resolution

SSAS doesn't support anything but Windows credentials. It will always use the windows account to access the SSAS connection. This is the an expected behavior with SSAS in general and not specific to Spotfire.

Note: The username and password option is there because it can be used if it needs to be connected to Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services over HTTP, for instance, when connecting to an Azure Analysis Services instance. Otherwise, it always uses Windows authentication.
