Description

While loading the shapefile for China country map from a third party vendor i.e. GADM(https://gadm.org/download_country_v3.html) inside Spotfire Analyst, Chinese characters are displayed as garbled characters even after applying the Chinese language pack. Below is the screenshot for the reference:

Resolution

To resolve this behavior, you need to set the System locale to Chinese.

To set it, follow the below steps in Windows:

1. Open the Control Panel -> Clock and Region/Region -> Administrative tab -> Change system locale... button -> set Current system locale to Chinese (Simplified, China).

2. Restart the machine and launch the Spotfire Analyst.

3. Now the Chinese characters are displayed correctly, below is the corresponding screenshot:

Note: After the computer restarts, we need to recreate the analysis file so that the Chinese characters are not garbled anymore. The existing DXP/analysis file will still have the garbled characters because that's how they were saved before setting the system locale properly.
