Description

If an LMI appliance shows that it is gathering logs for a particular log source based on information displayed on the Log Source Status page but some users, or all non-default-admin users, can't see the log source entries on either the Log Source Status or Manage Devices page then this may be an issue of permissions. LMI prevents users from being able to see not just the logs from devices the user is not been granted access to but will be unable to see the log source entries themselves in LMI.

Issue/Introduction

When some users cannot see any or some log sources in Log Source Status or Manage Devices pages but an admin ha confirmed the log source entries do exist then this is usually a symptom of the affected users not having been granted the privilege to see those log sources. This article provides the solution for that.

Resolution

The solution requires another account that has Manage Users privilege to modify the affected accounts by granting them access to see the log sources. This is accomplished by editing each user account and clicking on the Devices tab to change the devices to which they have access. If this is involving a management station cluster then these changes must occur on the management station and then the user changes must be replicated to the remote appliances to keep them in sync. If any affected user is currently logged in when these changes occur then they must log out for the change to take effect.
