Description

In Statistica Enterprise, you can define many different users with their own set of permissions. This article describes the different types of user names and user permissions in Statistica Enterprise.

Issue/Introduction

Statistica Enterprise User Names and User Permissions

Environment

Windows

Resolution

Types of User Names

There are two types of user names: those created within Statistica Enterprise and Windows domain user names that are imported from the Windows operating system.
Both types of user names have the same types of permissions available. There is just one difference:
When a user whose Windows domain user name has been imported into Statistica Enterprise opens Enterprise Manager, that user's Windows password is passed through to Statistica Enterprise, and the Enterprise Manager user interface opens without prompting for a user name and password.
When other users open Enterprise Manager, they are prompted to enter a user name and password. They must enter a user name that was previously created within Statistica Enterprise.

Categories of User Permissions

Statistica Enterprise provides three levels of permissions to provide granular control over what each user can see and do in the system. The levels of permissions are:

1. System Permissions. The permissions assigned to Users/Groups via the User Administration node in the System View.
2. Analysis Module Permissions. The permissions to utilize specific Statistica analyses; assigned to Users/Groups via the User Administration node in the System View.
3. Object Permissions. Each configuration object is assigned use and use/edit/delete levels of permissions. These permissions are assigned via the Access Permissions node in the System View respective to the individual object.

System Permissions control what actions a user can execute for different types of Enterprise Manager Objects. For example, a user with Analysis Admin (AADM) permissions can create, edit, and run Analysis Configurations. Following are the details of what the various permissions allow:

    • Alarm Admin (ALRMADM) − Acknowledge alarms generated by a MAS (Monitoring and Alerting Server) Taskset
    • Analysis Admin (AADM) − Create, edit, and run Analysis Configurations
    • Automated Collection (ADC) − Send data to the Statistica Enterprise database via the Automated Data Collection (ADC) library
    • Dashboard User (DUSR) − View and use MAS Dashboards
    • Data Admin (DADM) − Create, edit, and run Data Configurations
    • Data Entry (DE) − Run Data Entry Setups
    • Data Entry Admin (EDE) − Create, edit, and run Data Entry Setups
    • Data Entry Approval (DEAPPRV) − Approve Batch Data when using Data Entry Setups
    • Database Admin (EXTDB_ADM) − Configure Database Connections
    • Folder Admin (FADM) − Manage system folders (create new, rename, delete) without having full Administrator permissions
    • Historical Edit (HEDIT) − Review and edit historical samples using Data Entry Setups
    • Override (OVR) − Override upper and lower limits on data that has been manually input via Data Entry Setups
    • Report Admin (RADM) − Create, edit, and run Reports
    • Server Task Admin (STADM) − Create and edit MAS Tasksets and Dashboards
    • System Admin (SADM) − Review/edit/delete any system configuration and is a super set of all of the other system permissions
    • User (USR) − Use Enterprise Server system. All Statistica Enterprise users have this permission
    • User Admin (ADM) − Manage system Users and Groups
    • Web User (WUSR) − Use Statistica Enterprise Server via a Web Browser
    • WEB Viewer (WVWR) − Review reports in Statistica Enterprise Server via a Web browser
Note:  All admin permissions have access to Enterprise Manager.

Analysis Module Access Permissions control the type of analyses that a user can run. Visit this article for the details of the various Analysis Module Access Permissions.

Object Permissions controls the users/groups and the actions that the users/groups can do to individual Enterprise object.
Under the object Access Permission node, the Users or Groups that are selected to be able to use the current object are listed, and Read and Edit check boxes are displayed adjacent to user or group names.
If the Read check box is selected, the respective User or Group will have permission to run the configuration.
If the Edit box is selected, the respective User or Group will have the rights to use this configuration and also to edit/delete it.

Users can be assigned permissions to create, edit, or run all objects of a given type, such as Analysis Configurations, but permissions can also be set for individual Data Configurations and Analysis Configurations.

For example, if you create an Analysis Configuration named WidgetSize, every user with Analysis Admin (AADM) permissions can edit, run, or delete WidgetSize. However, in the WidgetSize Access Permissions options, you can specify that only certain users or groups can have read and/or edit permissions for WidgetSize. This overrides the general user and group permissions.

Note: Users with System Administrator (SADM) permissions are able to use and modify all configurations irrespective of the Access Permissions settings here.

    User Groups

Statistica Enterprise users can be assigned to Groups, and then permissions can be assigned to Groups just as permissions can be assigned to Users. There are several predefined Groups. You can also create new Groups.
Following are the predefined Groups and their default permissions:

    • Administrators − All permissions. Permission settings cannot be changed for this group.
    • Engineer − Analysis Admin (AADM), Data Admin (DADM), Report Admin (RADM), User (USR), Web User (WUSR), Web Viewer (WVWR)
    • Everyone – Dashboard User (DUSR), Data Entry (DE), User (USR)
    • Operator − Data Entry (DE), User (USR), Web User (WUSR), Web Viewer (WVWR)
    • Statistician − User (USR), Web User (WUSR), Viewer (WVWR)
