Description
What are some best practices to consider while installing and configuring Statistica Server (formerly known as Enterprise Server)?
Environment
Windows Operating Systems only. Windows Server 2008 R2 and above.
Resolution
Database Prerequisite: A database is required to be created before installing Statistica Server (previously known as Statistica Enterprise). The database must be ODBC or OLE DB compatible. See the 13.4 Installation Instructions. For other versions of Statistica see the TIBCO Product Documentation site.
Best practices for creating a Statistica Enterprise configuration database (also called the metadata database):
- Make sure there is a database administrator available to set up databases and database server users.
- Create native user in database server software.
- Avoid using Windows authentication. That creates problems when the MAS (Monitoring and Alerting System) service or the WebStatistica service tries to run analysis.
- Have the user password never expire.
- Create a new, empty, database.
- Make that the native database server user is the owner of the database.
Installing Statistica Server (previously known as Statistica Enterprise):
- Ensure the IIS Settings required for WebStatistica Installation
- Must be logged in to the server as an administrator to run the installation.
- Point the installation to the database created above.
- Use the native database server user for authentication.
- Avoid using Window authentication.
- A Windows domain user that can be used by Statistica Enterprise and MAS (Monitoring and Alerting System) to authenticate to the email server.
- If that Windows user gets deleted, or the password changes, then Statistica Enterprise and MAS will not be able to send email.
- It is best to have a dedicated Windows user, with a password that never expires, to be used by Statistica Enterprise and MAS.
- The SMTP server must be accessible from the server where you are installing.
Installing workstations:
- On the server, share the Statistica directory where the executables were installed. Typical location is :\Program Files\Statistica\Statistica <version #>\ or :\Program Files (x86)\Statistica\Statistica <version #>\ Read permissions only are adequate. There will be a Workstation Installer 64 folder and a Workstation Installer 32 folder, each with a setup.exe to launch the workstation installer from client/workstations. Note: For large workstation deployments, use the Silent installation instructions for Statistica installs.
