HISTORY
Statistica 8 contains an installable product named Version Manager. Installing this service allows multiple copies of Statistica to be used on the same computer. The Version Manager only function is to re-register the Statistica .dlls/exe files so the registry will point to the correct version to run. The v8 Version Manager is no longer available.
Note: This doesn't allow us to compare versions in the same environment or across all multiple environments?
Beginning with Statistica 9, version management is 'baked in' to the product. It is no longer required (or supported) to use the stand-alone Version Manager service.
In order for this integrated version management to operate correctly, the user must have administrative privileges on the computer. 'Run as Administrator' must also be used when switching between versions. Having administrative permissions and running as administrator ensures that the Statistica process has the permissions needed to update the registry when it launches. A message informs the user of this fact when multiple versions are installed as shown below:
If Statistica does not have the permissions necessary to update the required registry settings upon launch, one or more of the error messages below may be seen when launching the program. In addition, there may also be a message related to licensing problems. All of these messages stem from the same registry issue.
Older Version Messages (v8.0 up to 11.0):
Newer Version Messages (12.0 and above)
The above message indicates a separate Version Manager must be installed, but just re-run with administrative privileges (right-click on the shortcut and select "Run as administrator") to activate the built-in Version Manager, as mentioned below.
To resolve this issue, attempt to launch Statistica again by right-clicking on either the desktop shortcut or the All Programs Statistica icon and selecting the 'Run as administrator' option that is available. The version management progress bar will be displayed as the system updates the registry in preparation for the chosen version to open.
With trial versions, the error message might be abbreviated as shown here. Selecting the 'Run as administrator' option should solve this issue as well. Please note that trial versions can be installed on a machine with a currently installed purchased version but no version since 13.3.x can be installed when a trial is already installed.
Note: If upgrading to a new version, the previous copy of Statistica is no longer valid and the older version should be uninstalled (per the license agreement).
