Spotfire 12.3.0 introduced a necessary change in backward compatibility, so that Spotfire 12.3.0 and later can only open Spotfire analyses that were saved most recently in Spotfire 5.5 or later.

When you upgrade from an earlier version to Spotfire 12.3.0 or later (such as 14.0), you may find that one or more legacy analyses (DXP files) stored in the Spotfire Library were most recently saved using an older version than Spotfire 5.5.


Such files may throw an error like the following when opened in Spotfire 12.3.0 or later:

"This version of Spotfire cannot open files of version 4.5. Open the file using an earlier version than 12.3, and save it using that version first."

All supported operating systems

(a) If you have only upgraded one Spotfire environment (such as a test environment) and still have another Spotfire environment (such as a production environment) using a pre-12.3.0 version, you can open and save that file in the pre-12.3.0 Spotfire environment. Then provide a copy of the newly saved file for use in the upgraded Spotfire environment. (You could use Library Export / Library Import, for example.)

(b) If you do not still have a pre-12.3.0 Spotfire environment, you may need to roll back your upgraded environment to its pre-upgrade version, then open the problem file and save it using a pre-12.3.0 version before redoing the upgrade.

(c) If you have a Spotfire Analyst desktop client that has not yet accepted updates for upgrade to 12.3.0 or later, you could login to Spotfire Server from that Analyst client, do not accept updates, open the problem analysis, and save it using that pre-12.3.0 Analyst client.
