Description
Resolution: Prior to 3.1, the user was able to specify the application server and gateway server for client connections using the GUI. As of 3.1, the gateway server for client connections is no longer supported.
Typically, every application server has a gateway service. The only reason why a user would need to specify the gateway server for client connections is if the gateway service is running on a different box then the application server. In this scenario, you should use the saprfc.ini file and not specify the parameters in the GUI.
We would recommend that users use the saprfc.ini files especially during development and testing where things can change very often. Also, it is going to help when you migrate the instances to different TIB repositories. If you are using the ini file, you just need to change one field. However, if you use the repository for the SAPserver connection parameters, then you would need to maintain all of those fields.
