Structural Mapping is applicable to input repeating nodes only and governs the number of iterations of the repeating output schema. You can also use structural mapping to apply filters.
Please note that there are some restrictions on the type of mappings that can occur. Chapter 5 of the MB User's Guide contains more detail information on structural mapping.
