Description
Resolution:
The 4.5.1 release of TIBCO PortalBuilder now offers Apache/Tomcat as a platform choice during product installation. TIBCO currently supports the Covalent Enterprise Ready Server (ERS) as our chosen Apache/Tomcat platform. ERS can be purchased online at http://www.covalent.net. TIBCO does not have any immediate plans for certifying and supporting the current open source version of Apache and Tomcat. Installation of the open source version requires selecting the "other" option and some manual configuration.
While TIBCO does not support the open source versions of Apache 2.x and Tomcat 4.x in a production environment, TIBCO Product Support will accept problem reports that use this configuration. If the problem is platform independent, Support will respond as if this is a fully certified configuration. However, if the problem is platform specific, the reported problem must be replicated by the person reporting the problem on the supported Covalent platform before it will be addressed as a PortalBuilder product issue. If the bug is not reproduced on the supported Covalent ERS platform, then Support will close the service request as "unable to reproduce."
If the problem turns out to be product defect, a software patch might be released (Engineering must buy-in). If a software patch is required to correct a defect, TIBCO will provide the appropriate patch, and certify it on the Covalent platform. If the bug is reproducible and is attributed to the Covalent ERS Apache/Tomcat platform, then TIBCO will work with Covalent to get a patch for the supported Covalent ERS platform.
TIBCO will not create patches for open source Apache/Tomcat platforms. However, customers have the option of purchasing Covalent ERS from Covalent or working directly with the open source community to create a similar patch for their own version of Tomcat/Apache.
