Abstract : Impact to TIBCO Applications due to Day Light Saving changes in Australia
---------------------------------------------------------------
Background/Analysis of the Issue
------------------------------------------
Java maintains its own internal calendar that stores time zone details. Most java systems will use this internal time zone information and the current system time reported by the operating system to calculate and represent 'local' time. When time zone changes are decided by the government of a specific country – such as for the Commonwealth Games in Australia - java must also be updated in order for it to capture the change.
Potential Impact
------------------
General:
All java systems with Australian East Coast Time zones will report a current date / time which is one hour earlier than the real time from 27/3/2006 to 2/4/2006. This may require patching the underlying JRE and OS. TIBCO recommend that you check with your OS Vendors (SUN, HP, Microsoft, IBM) on availability of JRE and OS patches for this.
TIBCO Applications:
We do not expect any of the TIBCO products to have any issues with the DST change, as long as the underlying JRE versions and OS are patched in accordance with recommendations from JRE & OS vendors.
TIBCO applications internally use Java's standard time in milliseconds which is not localized, so time zones will have no effect. If the underlying JRE is not patched for the DST change, log files that use log4j -such as TIBCO Admin and XML Canon - will be off by an hour. But we do not expect any mission critical components such as processes or x-path formula within BW to be affected by this.
TIBCO will support all patch JRE version upgrades, as long as the JRE version upgrade are upgrading to a patch release.
For example, for all TIBCO products that ship with JRE 1.4.2.x, we will support those products running the latest JRE 1.4.2.11 or later.
For all TIBCO products that ship with JRE 1.4.1, we recommend the users to remain on the existing JRE.
For all TIBCO products that ship with JRE 1.3.1, we recommend the users to update to JRE 1.3.1.18. According to Sun, JRE 1.3.1.18 will be available on 22nd of March 2006.
