Resolution: One likely scenario is that a critical error occurred that has been logged to the $SWDIR/logs/sw_error file. On TIBCO process engine systems, this file should be checked and removed from this directory, before rerunning swstart or starting the service. The file should be forwarded to TIBCO Support (support@tibco.com) for analysis.
