Description
Resolution: You need to make sure what components would be affected by the netmask change.
Firstly, if you use multicasting, then netmask change would not matter. However, if you use broadcast, then a netmask change would mean a change in your host’s broadcast address. If this change means communicating hosts having dissimilar broadcast addresses, then RV communication may not work at all or may not work in at least one direction.
If you use RVRDs and the neighbours are separated via non physically separated networks, then you should take care that the netmask change does not get a local machine on the remote network.
Lastly, if you make the netmask change on all your RVD machines, then the local network on the rvrd that serves this network also needs to be changed to match the broadcast domain of the RVD hosts.
Having said that, since RVD and RVRD pick up network details only at the startup, getting them to recognise the netmask change on the host will require a restart of these components.
