TIBCO EMS originally was designed to provide native integration with LDAP systems through a third party open source product, OpenLDAP.  After much consideration it was decided that this native integration using OpenLDAP was not meeting customers requirements.

Because of this, in TIBCO EMS 5.0, TIBCO introduced support for JAAS and pluggable security.  Since the release of EMS 5.0 we have been encouraging customers that are using the LDAP functionality to migrate to using the plugin model.  

TIBCO fully supports the pluggable security model and provides sample plugins for easy customer development of custom JAAS plugins.  This interface for security is a fully supported component of the TIBCO Enterprise Message Service product and is what TIBCO is encouraging customers to use for more robust LDAP and security integration.
