Description
Resolution: S6BBRBAL automates the redistribution of the used pages of a specified segment into a redefined space. This redistribution makes changing space allocation for a segment easier and in some cases also leads to improved performance.
The TIBCO® Object Service Broker Utilities manual has a note that states: "...Run S6BBRPTR (Batch Pointer Check) on each target segment. Check that the resulting audit report contains no errors or orphan pages. Fix the errors and recover all orphan pages before proceeding..." Does the presence of warning messages "S6BBP134W SECONDARY INDEX INVALIDATED" require that the affected table indexes be rebuilt prior to running the segment balance utility?
Environment: ============ * z/OS * Open System platforms supporting TIBCO® Object Service Broker
Symptoms: ========= The segment backup used as input to the segment balance utility S6BBRBAL produces messages "S6BBP134W SECONDARY INDEX INVALIDATED" when analyzed by the batch pointer check utility S6BBRPTR.
Cause: ====== "S6BBP134W SECONDARY INDEX INVALIDATED" is a warning condition detected by S6BBRPTR (Batch Pointer Check) that indicates a slight degradation in the performance of one or more secondary indexes for the prescribed table and optionally, parameter instance. The secondary index is still usable but a read of the primary table index will be necessary to retrieve the row.
Resolution: =========== Since "S6BBP134W SECONDARY INDEX INVALIDATED" is a warning condition, it should not affect the operation of the segment balance utility S6BBRBAL.
You may elect to rebuild the secondary index and create a new segment backup before continuing or you may continue with the segment balance process and ignore the warning(s) at this point. When the segment balance operation has been completed, take another backup and analyze it with the S6BBRPTR (Batch Pointer Check) to ensure the same warnings exist and no additional errors have been introduced by the segment balance process.
If you have any further questions or issues with the segment balance process, open a service request with TIBCO Support and request their assistance.
