The modification on "R3 Connection Type" cannot be saved from "Inbound" to "Both" on TIBCO Designer. However the modification from “Both” to “Inbound” can be saved.

TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for SAP 5.x, 6.x
Symptoms:

The setting of “R3 Connection Type” remains “Inbound” anyhow after reopening the design time project even though the modification from “Inbound” to “Both” has been saved on designer before closing the project.
Cause:

Defect of TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for SAP palettes.
Resolution:
===========
Below steps can be considered as the workaround of this issue.
1. Modify the setting of “R3 Connection Type” from “Inbound” to “Both” then do not quite the Designer project.
2. Add a connection reference “ConnectionReference” under “R3Connections -> R3AdapterConfigurationActiveConnections” folder on the project.
3. Rename the newly added connection reference to “ServerClientReference” and refer the specific server connection to it.
