Customers migrating from EDI 5.x to EDI 6.x have attempted to generate X12 and EDIFACT guidelines for EDI 6.x using the export facility of the EDI 5.x guideline utility to generate the .sef file, which they then import into EDISIM. This is not a recommended practice.

The predefined guidelines in the EDISIM library are already configured for use with BusinessConnect and include extra information that is needed by BusinessConnect to translate documents, generated interchange and group headers, as well as reconcile acknowledgements. Exported guidelines from the pre-6.x version of the EDI protocol do not include this information and will cause errors if used with BusinessConnect.
If you would like to use this approach, we recommend using the corresponding EDISIM guideline as a starting point, exporting it to a .sef file and then comparing this file with the one exported from the previous version. Modify the EDISIM guideline with the needed changes and then re-import it back into EDISIM. You can then use the guideline to generate the .xsd, and .map files.
