This error can occur as part of the migration from BC EDI 5.4 to BC EDI 6.X. The following error message occurs when attempting to save a participant: "Data Element Separator and Interchange Header: ISA11 Repeating Separator cannot be the same value". Usage of the same separator for ISA11 repeating separator and data element was allowed in BC 5.x . It is not allowed in BC 6.x.

This error occurs by design with the BusinessConnect (BC) EDI 6.X EDI validation engine. Both “interchange Header” and “Delimiters” configurations are for outbound XML to EDI conversion cases. When a user receives inbound EDI from their TP, BC EDI does not parse inbound data as per these configuration, but as per the real delimiter in EDI data.

If a user sends EDI data lower than 4020 to one TP, ISA11 Repeating Separator will not be used, so the ISA11 Repeating Separator should be changed to a different character than the delimiter. If the user sends a 4020 and higher EDI data to one TP, the ISA11 Repeating Separator must be different from any delimiters in the “Delimiter” tab, otherwise the converted EDI data will be invalid.
