Description:
Error, "A lifecycle exception was thrown while trying to initialize the Tomcat server" when starting a BW process with HTTP receiver using Tomcat in Designer. The BW process works fine with BW 5.11 and TRA 5.8. Once TRA 5.8 HF 09 is installed, edit the designer.tra file to prepend the TRA hotfix folder in classpath. This is to overcome BW-16620. But then Designer throws the above error when starting a Tomcat HTTP server process. See the attached (Filename: tomcatHttpFail_designer.txt).

Error, "A lifecycle exception was thrown while trying to initialize the Tomcat server" when starting a BW process with HTTP receiver using Tomcat in Designer.
Resolution
TRA 5.8 Hotfix-06 upgrades the Tomcat version bundled in the TRA installation to Tomcat 7.0.54. You must install BW 5.11 hotfix-10, or the latest available hotfix, along with TRA 5.8 Hotfix-06 to avoid Tomcat related incompatibility in BW. Note that there are also errors such as "Unable to complete the scan for annotations for web application" which are brought by the TRA hotfix. For this, you should install at least BW 5.11 HF 10 or later.
