Description

You can automatically trigger the creation of a dump file of the Web Player using Microsoft's Debug Diagnostic Tool. Use this tool to capture a dump file at the exact moment when an intermittent or infrequent hang or crash occurs. Example scenarios where this is useful are when you try investigating a Web Player crash or hang and a dump file is required for the investigation to determine the cause. Note that this method can create a large number of dump files in the destination folder. Be sure that there is sufficient disk space on the disk defined for the "Userdump location" folder, as the resulting dump files can be large. These files should be deleted frequently if a crash has not been properly captured, to avoid filling up the disk.

Due to the large number of dump files that can be created with this method, it is often suggested to try the following alternative methods of automatic dump capture first:

Resolution

1). Download the latest Debug Diagnostic Tool from Microsoft:  http://blogs.msdn.com/b/debugdiag/

2). Open the Debug Diagnostic Collection Tool.

3). On "Crash Rule Type" select "Crash" and click "Next >"

4). On "Select Target Type" select "A specific process" and click "Next >"

5). On "Select Target" select the "Spotfire.Dxp.Worker.Host.exe" or "w3wp.exe" process that corresponds to your Web Player and click "Next >"

Note: If you do not know which Spotfire.Dxp.Worker.Host.exe or w3wp.exe process corresponds to your Web Player, see the following KB articles:
"" on the TIBCO Support website.

6). On "Advanced Configuration" set "Action type for unconfigured first chance exceptions" to "Mini Userdump" and click "Next >"

7). Click "Yes" to acknowledge that you are not limiting the number of dump files created. Ensure that you have sufficient disk space on the drive where the dump files will be saved.

8). On the "Select Dump Location and Rule Name (Optional)" dialog, change "Userdump location" to the folder where you would like the dumps saved and click "Next >"

9). On "Rule Completed" click "Finish" to activate the rule now.

10). When the Web Player application crashes again, capture all files from the "Userdump location" folder from the time of the crash +/- 10 minutes, then send those to TIBCO.
