Issue/Introduction

This article explains how we were able to troubleshoot an issue where metadata could not be retrieved from the source when connecting to a DB2 database, using the ODBC connector and IBM iSeries Access Driver.

Resolution

The issue turned out to be permission related and the IBM iSeries trace logs showed that there was no authority on the user profile/account with a few objects.

The error from the IBM iSeries trace logs were to the effect:

 - NO AUTHORITY TO USR QSYS
 - NO AUTHORITY TO USR QSYSUSR

We were able to locate the problem by enabling a diagnostic job trace on the IBM iSeries Access Driver via the ODBC Data Source Administrator (64-bit) and on iSeries, while trying to access the source in TIBCO Scribe Online. Please work with your IBM iSeries admin and review the article in the reference for steps on how to enable a job trace.
