When you try to create a bootstrap connection between Spotfire Server and  Microsoft SQL Server hosted on Amazon RDS instance, it may fail with the following error message:

There was an error connecting to the Spotfire Server database:  The TCP/IP connection to the host xxxx, port 1433 has failed. 

Error:  “Connection refused:  connect.  Verify the connection properties.  Make sure that an instance of SQL Server is running on the host and accepting TCP/IP connections at the port.  Make sure that TCP connections to the port are not blocked by a firewall.

Unable to create a bootstrap file for Microsoft SQL Server hosted on Amazon RDS(Relational Database Services) instance.

All Supported Environments

Resolution

Make sure you are using Amazon RDS endpoint in the hostname details and not the "localhost" or the name of the server on which SQL Server Management Studio resides.

Note:  You may want to check if the security groups for each instance has the required permissions on the TCP ports.
