Symptoms:
Unable to the view "Web Server Log" in Web Player Diagnostics. Error, "Could not read log. Empty path name is not legal."

Possible causes:
- Incorrect permissions on the "installation folder: \TIBCO\Spotfire Web Player\X.0.0\Logfiles"
-"Spotfire.Dxp.Web.log" might not be present in the LOGFILES folder.

Issue/Introduction

Unable to view "Web Server Log" in Web Player Diagnostics. "ERROR: Could not read log. Empty path name is not legal."

Environment

All supported Windows Operating systems

Resolution

- Check the permissions for the Web Player Application Pool user on the directory "TIBCO". Manually add the user OR user_account if it is not present, and grant "full control".

- Confirm that you inherit the permissions to the sub/child folders. Example "TIBCO\Spotfire Web Player\X.0.0\Logfiles".

If the above doesn't help, you can also try capturing Process Monitor.

Instructions:

- Download Process Monitor from "https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb896645.aspx"
- Unzip the Process Monitor and then start it by running Procmon.exe.
- Reproduce the issue. Switch to Process Monitor and click "Ctrl + E" to stop capturing events.

Press CTRL+F and check for activities on "TIBCO\Spotfire Web Player\X.0.0\Logfiles" by the w3wp.exe process. You can provide the necessary permissions if any access related issues are found.
