Use Perfmon to log memory usage over time when you are troubleshooting an issue with either TIBCO Scribe® Online Agents or TIBCO Scribe® Insight. Perfmon is included with Windows operating systems.
Note: If you are using TIBCO Scribe® Online, installing multiple Agents on the same computer can impact memory and performance.
Setting Up Log File
Refer to the help for Perfmon for your Windows operating system. These instructions were written for Windows 8. Your system may be slightly different but the concepts should be the same.
- Navigate to the Windows Services screen and stop all Scribe services.
- Use Windows search to locate and run Perfmon.
- When Perfmon opens, click on Performance Monitor in the tree on the left.
- Right-click in the right panel and select Add Counters.
- There are many options in this window. By default, the %Processor time is always on. For message processor non-responsive errors, add the Available Memory to the counter.
- On the main Perfmon screen, locate the new counter at the bottom of the window. Double-click the Available Memory counter to display the Properties dialog.
- Change the color to distinguish this counter from the default % Processor Time counter.
- Change the scale to register this counter in the report. For monitoring Available Mbytes, change the scale to .01 or .001.
- Click OK to save your changes.
- In the tree on the left select Data Collector Sets > User Defined.
- Right-click the User Defined folder and select New > Data Collector Set. The Create new Data Collector Set Wizard opens.
- Enter a name and click Next.
- Leave the System Diagnostics option selected and click Next.
- Note the drive where logs are saved. Click Finish.
