Description

The following error might be seen while running a TIBCO Spotfire Automation Services job with the "Send Email" task:

System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated

Issue/Introduction

Why does running Automation Services job result in the error "The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated"?

Resolution

This error can be seen if the SMTP server details provided in the "Spotfire.Dxp.Worker.Automation.config" are not correct. This error can also be seen if the SMTP server used in the configuration is not reachable from the local machine(if the Automation Services job is run locally through Spotfire Analyst) or from the Automation Services Node Manager machine (if the Automation Services job is run on server).

It should be made sure that the SMTP server details in the "Spotfire.Dxp.Worker.Automation.config" file is correct and that the SMTP server is reachable from the machine running the Automation Services as mentioned above.

To check/change the SMTP server details in the Automation Services configuration file, refer to the "SMTP Settings" section in the Automation Services User's Guide.
