Description

When launching the Spotfire Analyst client you are given the option to "Log In" to a Spotfire Server or you can "Work Offline" (if your company's settings allow it). See the "Logging In" section of the Spotfire Analyst User's Guide for more context. This allows you to launch the client without a connection to a Spotfire Server. While working offline, there is no access to any server-side functionality like the Spotfire library content (local dxp and data only), Information Designer, Administration Manager, or Library Administration tools.

This article explains some additional behavior when working offline in more detail.

The "Work offline" mode in the Spotfire Analyst client inherits the licenses/functionalities as per the last Spotfire Server logged in for any particular user on that specific machine. For "Work offline" mode in Spotfire Analyst, all licenses/functionalities will not be available by default like they are in Spotfire Desktop. This behavior applies to both installed Spotfire Analyst client and portable Spotfire Analyst clients.

Below are a few example scenarios which might be encountered by users while using "Work offline" mode option:
  1. Allow saving credentials in Data Connection (Add Data Tables > Connection to > Data Connectors) or Database Connection (Add Data Tables > Other > Database) is disabled.
  2. Spanish language is enabled by default
  3. Data Connectors not visible
  4. Every license/functionality is enabled whereas restricted license/functionality is expected
  5. After having started Analyst in "Work Offline" mode, how do I login to a Spotfire Server at some later point?

Issue/Introduction

This article explains how the "work offline" mode works in Spotfire Analyst

Resolution

The following is an explanation of the example scenarios:

1) Allow saving credentials in Data Connection (Add Data Tables > Connection to > Data Connectors) or Database Connection (Add Data Tables > Other > Database) is disabled
  • Explanation: The last logged in user of the client on that machine may have logged in to a Spotfire Cloud server. The Spotfire Cloud server does not have the functionality of saving credentials. For on premise Spotfire Servers, if Spotfire Analyst > Open Database Data license is provided, allow savings credentials option is enabled by default

2) Spanish language is enabled
  • Explanation: The last logged in user of the client on that machine might have selected Spanish as the default language or must have been member of the group which has default language as Spanish

3) Data Connectors not visible
  • Explanation: The last logged in user of the client on that machine did not have the Data Connectors licenses enabled

4) Every license/functionality is enabled whereas restricted license/functionality is expected
  • Explanation: The last logged in user of the client on that machine may have had full Admin rights.
5) After having started Analyst in "Work Offline" mode, how do I login to a Spotfire Server at some later point?
  • Explanation: In order to login to a Spotfire Server after having started Analyst in "Work Offline" mode, you need to restart your Spotfire Analyst, and then login to the desired Spotfire Server. Make sure to save your current analysis (if so desired) before restarting.
