Description

Statistica stores user specific preferences of using the application to a file named "StatOpts.xml". This article details how this file can be backed up and then reverted to Statistica's default configuration. This file is typically updated every time a user uses Statistica and exits the application and it stores the user's latest preferences - some of which are explicitly specified in Statistica >>File >>Options in Statistica and some of the preferences stored are recorded when the user uses the application - such as where in the screen the user last placed a certain dialog, the last opened file, etc.

Issue/Introduction

How to backup and reset Statistica options (StatOpts.xml) ?

Resolution

There are times when users would choose for these user preferences to go back to the default like they had a fresh install of Statistica. There are 2 ways to backup the current user preferences and reset the user options for Statistica to default.
  •  Directly in the folder :
    1.  Close Statistica instances if it is open
    2. Navigate to the user's folder : C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\StatSoft\STATISTICA\<Statistica version> and locate the file named StatOpts.xml
    3. Rename the Statopts.xml as StatOpts.bak
    4. Launch Statistica. Statistica will now be launched with the default user preferences and a new Statopts.xml will be created with the preferences when Statistica is closed again in the same folder path.
    5. To revert back to the preferences backed up before, simply rename the current Statopts.xml to Statopts.bak2 and rename the statopts.bak to Statopts.xml
  •  From Statistica :
                 1.  Launch Statistica and click on File >>Options
                 2. Select Configurations. Select the default Initial configuration. Click Export. Select Yes on the dialog that indicates that settings will be saved in the currently active configuration.

              8.  If the user needs to revert back to the user preferences saved before, they may launch Statisica and then click on File >>Options. Navigate to Configurations and import the file previously exported on step 4. Statistica will warn that the current settings would be overwritten by the settings in the file exported.
