Description

The global system setting "DNS Resolve All Device Names" can be used to automatically update IP addressed in device names to their DNS-based names. This is described in article 000005818. The exception to this is Check Point interfaces because LMI retrieves CPMI daily to check for rule changes. This process also verifies the interface names. So if you do not have the DNS Resolve setting enabled during the initial Check Point interface auto-discovery then all the Check Point devices will be auto-discovered with an IP address specified in their device name and they will not change to host names even if you enable the DNS Resolve setting later.

Issue/Introduction

This article explains how to specify DNS names for Check Point interfaces.

Resolution

The solution is to change the CPMI Auto Discovery setting to Manual Input for each LEA server so that the interfaces names won't continue being updated as a result of the CPMI daily updates. This will allow manual updating of the Check Point interface names. To do this you will need to go to Management->Check Point Configuration, click on the particular LEA server and then select Manual Input for the CPMI setting, then click on Update.
