Description

When Statistica opens the error message box appears with "Server Node is down or not responding":

Server node is down or not responding

There are few known causes:

1.  A connection problem between the workstation and the server hosting the license service.
2.  The Statistica License Manager is not running on the server
3.  A mis-configuration of the pointer file on the workstation.
4.  A blocking firewall on the server or workstation.
5.  The inability of the workstation to resolve the license server hostname

Issue/Introduction

Users may see "Server Node is down or not responding" error when launching TIBCO Statistica

Environment

Windows operating systems only.

Resolution

SOLUTION ONE

Check to be sure the Statistica License Manager is started on the server.  See this knowledge base article:  The Statistica License Manager service keeps stopping.

SOLUTION TWO

Check that the pointer file, stat.lic, on the workstation is configured with the correct name, host id (or MAC address), and port number of the license server. The pointer file, stat.lic, should match the contents of the ClientSTAT.tmp file exactly. The pointer file may need the FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) if DNS resolution fails. See article about the What is the ClientSTAT.tmp included with the Statistica concurrent or enterprise install?

SOLUTION THREE

Temporarily disable any firewalls on both the server and the workstation. If endpoint security is in use, turn this off temporarily to check to see if this is causing a communication problem.  The default ports used for the Statistica License Manager service are 26999 and 26998, TCP protocol. For more information, see page 31 of the installation instructions here:  https://docs.tibco.com/pub/stat/13.6.0/doc/pdf/TIB_stat_13.6_installation.pdf?id=0

SOLUTION FOUR

Ping the server name through the command prompt. The ping command will resolve the name into the corresponding IP address:

Ping

If the ping fails, there may be a problem with the DNS resolving host name to IP addresses. If DNS is not working, the IP address can be used in the pointer license file.  See this knowledge base article:  https://support.tibco.com/s/article/How-to-change-the-Statistica-pointer-license-file-to-a-static-IP-address

SOLUTION FIVE

Open Internet Explorer on the workstation and type http://:servername and the licensing port number (port number is 26999 by default). An example is http://servername:26999 (or http://servername.domain.com:26999 is the FQDN is needed) and then select the 'Enter' key on the keyboard. The response should be similar to:  Wê-60Wê-60Wê-60Successful port test

If the outcome is different from above, then the port 26999 or 26998 may be blocked.  See SOLUTION 3 above.
