Description

After receiving the error message "The desired vendor daemon is down" message, the Statistica License Manager service was restarted but the service keeps stopping.

Typical causes are:

  • Server name has changed
  • Hardware changed on the server hosting the license service
  • Information in the license file has change
  • Server migrated to a new Virtual Machine (Virtual to Virtual Move)
  • License file date has expired

Issue/Introduction

The Statistica License Manager service keeps stopping (or will not start). Usually caused by a mismatch between the license file and the machine information or the license file has expired.

Environment

Window operating systems.

Resolution

SOLUTION ONE (Server name has changed)

1.  Open the lmgrd.log file, located in the FLEXlm folder,  with Notepad (or other text editor). The typical location is :\Program Files (x86)\Statistica\FLEXlm\.

2.  Near the bottom of the log, the reason the service was stopped is given.  The server name was changed as detected by the license manage daemon (lmgrd.exe) and outputted to the lmgrd.log file (see the highlighted lines below):

14:40:59 (lmgrd) -----------------------------------------------

14:40:59 (lmgrd)

14:40:59 (lmgrd)

14:40:59 (lmgrd) pid 5048

14:40:59 (lmgrd) "SERVER112": Not a valid server hostname, exiting.

14:40:59 (lmgrd) Valid license server system hosts are: "SERVER281"

14:40:59 (lmgrd) Using license file "C:\Program Files (x86)\StatSoft\FLEXlm\stat.lic"

3.  If only the server name has changed, the license file, stat.lic, can be modified to the new server name.  Open the license file with a text editor (Notepad), edit the server name, and save the file to a different location (Desktop location preferred).

4.  Copy and past the edited license file to the FLEXlm folder (typical location is C:\Program Files (x86)\StatSoft\FLEXlm\).

5.  Restart the STATISTICA License Manager service.

SOLUTION TWO (Hardware changed or Server migrated to a new Virtual Machine)

1.  Open the lmgrd.log file located in the FLEXlm folder.  The typical location is :\Program Files (x86)\StatSoft (or Stastica)\FLEXlm\.

2.  Near the bottom of the log, the reason is given as "Invalid hostid on SERVER line."

3.  Obtain the new hostid (MAC address or UUID, whichever the license file is using).  Then create a TIBCO support case at https://support.tibco.com/s/ so support can change the license file and send back the updated license file.  Please provide the new MAC address or UUID.  See  https://support.tibco.com/s/article/How-to-find-the-UUID-also-known-as-the-STATID-for-Statistica-licensing

Important Note:  See new alternative resolution for virtual machines here.

SOLUTION THREE (Information changed in the license file)

For licensing errors and for other errors in the lmgrd log file, see https://support.tibco.com/s/article/Statistica-Error-Debug-log-licensing-report.   For unresolved issues, please contact TIBCO Support (https://support.tibco.com/s/)

SOLUTION FOUR (License file date has expired)

The Statistica License Manager service may have stopped if the license file expiration date has been reached.  This can also be checked in the lmgrd.log file.  See an example of the lmgrd file in SOLUTION ONE above.  The message will indicate the license file has expired.  To resolve this, a new license file must created in one of the following ways:

Important Note:  If the Concurrent License Manager will not open or the error message "The Vendor Daemon is down or not responding" occurs, copy and paste the new license file into the FLEXlm folder (typical location is <local server drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Statistica\FLEXlm) and then restart the STATISTICA License Manager service.
