The generic recommended approach is detailed below. Repeat the procedure for each environment to be upgraded meticulously. If necessary, refer to performing an in place upgrade for lower environments if needed (linked in reference section of this article):
1. Back up the Enterprise meta database used by the version of Statistica currently being used in the environment and restore this to a new database. If using SQL Server, the DBA could use SQL Server's Backup and Restore. If using Oracle the DBA could use Oracle Export dump and Import dump to achieve this. Note the credentials to connect to the database. Ensure the credentials chosen has permissions to create tables on the database.
2. Stand up new Server(s) and download the latest TIBCO Statistica installer (Version being upgraded to) from
http://edelivery.tibco.com on the server.
3. Extract the zip. file . Launch CDStart.exe or go to the bit-width of the server folder (For example, on a 64 bit machine, pick Install 64 folder) and right click on Setup.exe and launch as Administrator. Use the latest keys corresponding to the version of Statistica being installed provided by fullfillment team for the installation. Install instructions are linked in Reference section of the article.
4. Choose "Use an existing database" when the installer asks for the database information and point to the copy of Enterprise schema that was noted in Step 1. Apply the hot-fixes that are recommended for the newer version post installation (if applicable).
NOTE that in-lieu steps 2 through 4 mentioned above, another option to is to clone the existing Statistica Server(s), get an updated license file by raising a case in
http://support.tibco.com with the
Statistica license file and the
Sales Order information for the cloned machines and perform an
in place upgrade after
re pointing the System DSN to the to the copy of meta database 5. Post Install, launching Statisica for the first time will prompt for a database upgrade. After ensuring that the credentials used by the System DSN have sufficient permissions to create new and Update tables, click OK.
If any errors are observed during the upgrade, raise a case in
http:support.tibco.com 6. If SDMS Server has been upgraded/ migrated/cloned as detailed in
https://support.tibco.com/s/article/How-to-migrate-SDMS-from-one-server-to-another as part of the upgrade process, launch Enterprise Manager and navigate to System options>> SDMS Integration and re-point the SDMS Server URL to the new SDMS Server. Refer:
https://support.tibco.com/s/article/How-to-find-full-SDMS-server-URL-that-can-be-used-when-enabling-this-component-in-TIBCO-Statistica-Enterprise-Manager Also ensure other settings such as path to keep objects, fallback authentication details reflect the new SDMS Server
7. Ensure all database connections are pointing to the right databases. Database connections of specific concern are listed below :
a. The database connection that is defined as default database connection for Data Entry Setups in System Options >>Data Entry:
b. Database connections that could be writing spreadsheets back to the database. This is a concern since consecutive tests may writeback data from tests to production
8. Proceed to perform user specific tests on environment. Report any concerns in
http://support.tibco.com. Repeat the detailed procedure for higher environments.
